i first met him after i crashed on earth, right in gotham bay. and he used kryptonite to knock me out. i know he can be totally scary.

but he's secretly a big softie.

[ he lets her frown about clark being dumb and not realizing that being as super as he is makes everyone else seem inadequate. bruce is forever in her good books for that, never mind other stuff he's done for her in the past. ]

and you know he's like a total asshole with his sense of humor, right? he probably acts doubly as weird around you because you react to it.

and considering they never really talked in depth about... everything that happened after fighting superboy-prime, kara might have a larger point than kon wants to admit to the light of day. sure, they talked about it, for all of one night in paris like a couple of cliches. but on the other hand, kon still has no idea tim's missing a spleen. how would that conversation go, "hey, how's your internal organs, still all there?"

sometimes he wonders if being a literal test tube baby does him more good or bad on the average. ]

They've always been Clark's, not his, and he's not one for intruding. He never was, not really, even back in Hawaii. As far as family goes, it's been the little family he's picked up along the way to becoming a proper, full-fledged "hero" - Bart, Tim, Cass, Steph.

Hell, even Krypto, the mutt that he is.

( One thing's for sure: she's nobody's mentor. Even if she doesn't necessarily see that, given her situation with Mon-El at the moment. Still. This boy is as much different from her as he is the same. They both want, need to stand alone and apart from Clark, but also be seen as just as capable as he is despite that. Making a name for herself outside of her family--that's a goal she's had for a while. Ever since her adoptive father had told her that the Earth didn't need another hero when it had Superman.

Konner isn't Clark, and he sure isn't Mon-El. (Thank Rao.) It wouldn't be fair to approach him as if he were, or should be. A mistake she's made and learned from already. Now, she just wants to get to know him, and adapt as she does.

It's the least he deserves. )

[ they're the middle children. it's something of a silent joke, really - young justice was the junior team to the actual junior team, even if they inherit the teen titan titles later on. and then the older generation took on more proteges, some of them actual descendants like damian wayne (or jonathan kent, in a different universe).

everybody remembers the first robin. the first catwoman. the first flash. it's always a tough act to follow up.

not that kon has a lot to complain about. compared to the others, he's had it pretty damn easy; he's been self-sufficient pretty much as soon as he got out of cadmus labs, thanks to opportunistic managers and compassionate reporters. he's not wayne or queen levels of rich, but he's got a comfy enough nest egg to live on if he ever wanted to be a civilian full time. thing is, he doesn't. he can't imagine a life outside of being a super.

but he's never gonna grow up. literally. he's stuck with this young adult body until he dies again, because science is cruel. "superboy for life" - he's never gonna be like superman. some nights, it still keeps him up.

it's terrifying, to know that he was made for a purpose he could never meet. ]

there's no anti-meta rule at midvale though right? just checking, because getting blindsided by kryptonite is never fun. :(
